You'll regret this your whole life

I feel so grateful to have this morning view.

Reminds me of how small we are, and how fast everything passes.

Why waste your time feeling down over unimportant shit,

When it all fades so quickly?

They’re from the same morning.

Sooner or later, death is gonna come for all of us.

No matter what you accomplished in life, how much you worked, or how much fun you had.

Death is gonna come any minute.

It doesn’t care about all that.

But you should.

You’re not put here on this Earth to waste your life.

Neither by partying every single day and getting drunk with every occasion you get,

Nor by working so much that your heart starts giving out on you,

That your mind starts falling into an abyss of stress and disappointment,

And your body simply starts yelling “Stop!”.

I have two friends who are both high-up on this work horse,

One is working here, on Twitter, and the other one is working to better her own life.

But no matter the goals they were aiming towards, they got lost in a fog of tasks.

Overworking can happen in everything, be it construction-working or something as mild as writing.

They both came to me these past few days, one asking for my help, and the other simply sharing parts of his life.

And I couldn’t help but notice how much this shit hurt their lives.

The first one was feeling down, like she couldn’t do anything anymore.

And the second one was affected so deeply by this, that for 2 months he went on a spiral of instant gratification, like drinking, smoking and so on.

And these are just two of the cases I’ve seen throughout my life.

I have people in my class so worried about their exams that they cut back on their sleep, on their life and their rest.

What hurts the most is seeing people so dumb they don’t realize that

No matter what you’re doing, cutting on your FUCKING SLEEP to achieve it is only gonna make things worse.

In my honest opinion, overworking can cause more problems than procrastination.

Sure, you may be seen as “more successful”, but your soul and your mind will constantly be tormented,

And you’re never gonna escape this cycle, especially when you “make it”, because guess what?

Now you have an identity around this.

Everyone knows you as the hardest worker in the room,

When in fact you’re now just a shell of your former, joyous self.

Is that who you want to become?

Guessed not.

And now, just so I don’t leave you emptyhanded with a big problem on your ass cheeks,

Here’s the step-by-step solution:

1. Realize why you’re slowly killing yourself:

If you know me, you know I always say you need to discover the root of a problem to fix it.

So ask yourself this:

“Why do I need to work so much?”

“What happens if I stop working?”

In my case, working provided me with a bigger perceived value, aka I wasn’t feeling worthless.

Coming from a life of almost constant gaming and just gym workouts, working was something that gave me meaning.

So I attached my identity to it. I needed to work.

Because of that, I spent less time with my friends, less time enjoying myself, my life,

And most importantly for me - less time being a child.

If you’re currently under 18 and on this journey (which I know most of you are),

You’ve got to realize that the most important thing you can do isn’t becoming a millionaire by 20,

It’s living this life without any regrets.

And I assure you, no matter how much of a cheese grinder you may be, sooner or later you’re gonna regret wasting your teenage years like this.

You’ve heard me, I said waste your teens.

Because that’s what you’re doing.

You’re depriving yourself of experiencing what you have left of a carefree life and you’re turning everything bleak.

And I don’t suggest going to the other side and becoming a degenerate, of course not.

But unless you’re working to put food on the table for tomorrow, balance these things out.

This last advice applies to you adults as well.

Two of the most important things that can dictate a happy, fulfilling life are good sleep, and great social life.

And you’re destroying both by just being stubborn.

2. Prioritise only important tasks:

We both know that if you’re grinding yourself into garlic powder, there prolly are A LOT of things you don’t need in your schedule.

Yes, even the things that you “couldn’t imagine yourself living without”. Maybe especially those.

What I want you to do list every task you do on a piece of paper and order them by their importance.

And I want you to do this now. C’mon, this is some experimental shit right here, do it with me.

I see you still trying to read further ahead.

Get that damn paper.

Now.

Ok, now that you have your list, keep the first 3 things there, and cut all the others with a straight line.

Now I know that you will simply die if you have such little work to do,

So every week you’re gonna add one more task to this list until your schedule feels comfortable.

Yeah, you heard me, your work schedule doesn’t need to be stressful, long, hard, or fucking boring.

It needs to give you a sense of comfort.

And what this will teach you to do is become comfortable with a lower set of tasks, and truly differentiate important ones,

From those that don’t bring you any closer to your goals.

3. Sleep over work (always):

I don’t care if you’ve got the deadliest deadline coming straight for your head,

If you choose to prioritise working over rest, all the shit I said earlier isn’t important anymore.

I believe God, whether he exists or not, has given us clues about how to live our lives in everything around us:

In nature and in the way we as humans work.

And just how muscles are incapable of growing without sufficient rest,

The only thing we’re doing by sacrificing our sleep is moving closer to a life of stress and madness.

And I don’t know all of you that well, but I don’t think that’s quite the life you want to live.

So if you get at least 1 thing from this article, I want it to be this:

NEVER trade sleep for work.

Ok, now you’ve just spent around 5-7 minutes reading a fucking article,

WHEN YOU SHOULD BE WORKING.

Now get out of here.

(I am fucking kidding)

Have an amazing week, guys. I love ya <3
